Other Etruscan Inspired Pieces

The Traditional Etruscan/Roman Bracelet pictured above is probably from the 1st or 2nd century A.D. The bracelet has gemstone beads woven into a tightly knit chain. The ends of the bracelet hook into loops on the center-bezeled-set stone.

As with all my contemporized Etruscan pieces, I try to reinterpet the traditional jewelry-design vernacular into something with more contemporary touches and flourishes. One example of a contemporized piece, with reference to the Traditional Etruscan/Roman Bracelet, is my Etruscan Square Stitch Bracelet.

My Etruscan Square Stitch Bracelet is made up of 3mm faceted brass cubes. The center row of beads consists of African Green Jasper flat pillow squares and size 8/0 Miyuki glass beads.

This split/open negative space square stitch design has been around for many, many years. My particular take on this piece is similar in look to one designed by Shelley Nybakke in 2008. My technical approach towards executing the square stitch technique differs from hers in several ways, though the overall design has only a few changes.
